Ward Leloup is a teaching assistant in History (VUB) and a junior researcher at the research group HOST (Historical Research into Urban Transformation Processes). He is also a member of the Henri Pirenne Institute for Medieval Studies at Ghent University.

Within the overarching field of medieval urban history, his research interest is in the social, economic and spatial history of Flemish and Brabantine towns during the late medieval period. His current PhD research investigates social relations between leatherworkers in Bruges and Mechelen between the fourteenth and sixteenth century, and how these relations reflected in urban space through the locational choices of these craftsmen. Previously he has investigated the spatial and historical evolutions of Bruges’ outports along the medieval Zwin within the context of an interdisciplinary research project at Ghent University.
