Koos Fransen is a voluntary researcher at Cosmopolis VUB. He has a background in Industrial Engineering – Land Surveying, Urbanism and Spatial Planning and Transition Management. He currently works as a project leader for complex, multi-actor public space projects at the City of Ghent. In addition, he is the founder of do and think tank STR.AAT (https://www.str-aat.be) and guest professor in Sustainable Mobility Transitions at Ghent University.
His research focuses on accessibility and its link to spatial planning and transport policy, with a primary focus on aspects of social exclusion and transport poverty. He also has a clear interest in participation and cocreation with various lesser-voiced population groups (e.g., youngsters, children, elderly), primarily through the application of a transition framework.
