Karen Steukers (°2000) is a PhD researcher. In 2023, she obtained a Master of Science in Architectural Engineering at Ghent University. In 2024, she received an FWO-research grant to study the reuse of building materials in public procurement procedures. This joint PhD research is supervised by professor Lionel Devlieger (UGent) and Stephanie Van de Voorde (VUB)

Karen holds a degree in architectural engineering from Ghent University and previously worked at Rotor vzw, where she gained valuable experience in the field of reuse and circular construction. This experience now informs her doctoral research, which focuses on the integration of circular construction and demolition principles into public procurement procedures. Central to her work is the role of public clients in fostering the reuse sector. As a designer, she explores how architecture is not only defined by drawings but also articulated through language.
