Els Enhus was full professor in Criminology at the Department of Criminology of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Since September 2018 she is professor Emeritus in Criminology. Els is involved in teaching “Criminological Encounters” and “Crime and the City” (Master Criminology and Master Urban Studies).

She is particularly interested in the way crime, feelings of insecurity, conflicts and tensions are experienced in cities and spaces and gain meaning for governments, civil society, residents and users. This includes themes such as criminalisation and decriminalisation, stigmatisation of neighbourhoods, protest and riots, the impact of public lighting on crime and fear of crime, police, social and environmental prevention.
