Aristide Athanassiadis is a senior researcher at the non-profit Metabolism of Cities. For over ten years he carried out academic research on urban metabolism (PhD from Université Libre de Bruxelles and The University of Melbourne). In his research, he developed accounting frameworks to assess the metabolic flows and stocks of cities.

He has held research and visiting research positions in ULB, EPFL, Université Paris 1, Université de Montréal and University of Melbourne. From 2018 to 2020, he was co-Chair of Circular Economy and Urban Metabolism at the Université Libre de Brussels. In this context, he created bridges between universities, public administrations and stakeholders in order to accelerate Brussels' transition towards a more circular economy and metabolism. Finally, over the last decade, he has advised numerous local, municipal, urban, regional and national administrations in these areas as well as written numerous reports measuring the flows and stocks of cities, businesses, economic sectors, industrial zones, etc.
