Michael Ryckewaert is associate professor at Cosmopolis Centre for Urban Research. He teaches urban design studio as well as history and theory of urban design in the MSc Urbanism and Spatial Planning and related programs at Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
His research centers on housing and social in- and exclusion in urbanized contexts. Recent research focuses on (spatial) policies and practices of collective, public and non-profit housing (social and collaborative housing, housing cooperatives and community land trusts) in relation to the right to housing in a metropolitan and internationally comparative context. In addition, he is interested in how economic activities, mixed land use, infrastructure and transport shape urbanization, from a historical as well contemporary perspective.
