Hadewijch Vandenheede holds a BSc in Social Work (2005), BSc in Sociology (2007), MSc in Sociology (2008) and a PhD in Social Sciences (2011). As of October 2018, she is an Associate Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The focus of her research is migrant, gender and socioeconomic health inequalities, and the
intersection between these. The topic of her PhD was migrant differences in diabetes morbidity and
mortality, with special emphasis on the interactions with gender and socioeconomic position. Currently, she is involved with projects examining migrant differences in cancer incidence, survival, and mortality, and with projects on environmental epidemiology, COVID mortality and on improving health care and everyday life of people living with a rare disease. Since the beginning of her PhD, professor Vandenheede has been teaching statistics courses to social science students and has done so ever since. In more recent years she has been focusing on the more advanced methods, such as survival and multilevel analysis
