Marylise Parein is a PhD researcher at VUB Architectural Engineering. She has a keen interest in residential heritage and building culture of the (late) twentieth century.

She is currently working on the research project 'The Brussels housing stock (1975-2000): materiality and heritage value', which is supported by Innoviris and realized in collaboration with the Regional Public Service urban.brussels. This research aims to shed light on young residential heritage, which is still largely understudied and undervalued. Identifying and studying the building materials applied will contribute to the understanding and appreciation of these buildings and will be valuable in future renovation, restoration and maintenance studies.
