David and Goliath: How to protect housing from financial giants

FairFin event
Rents are skyrocketing and waiting lists for social housing are getting longer. That is why FairFin examined the impact of finance on housing in Brussels. The research project shows that we are at a tipping point. The financial world does not yet have the Brussels housing market in its grip, but the first steps have already been taken: so things can change very quickly. Time for action!

The evening is organised by FairFin in collaboration with BCUS and reflects on potential measures that have most impact on the financialisation of the housing market in Brussels and potential strategies needed to implement them. The panel discussion (in English) will be moderated by Prof. David Bassens (VUB) and FairFin contributor Jozef Vandermeulen will enter into a discussion with 3 experts::

  • Sarah De Laet, geographer and activist at Action Logement Bruxelles and former coordinator of Inter Environnement Bruxelles
  • Kristiaan Borret, Brussels master builder
  • Michael Ryckewaert, professor of urbanism

More information and registration for the panel discussion are found on the FairFin website. Additional information about FairFin's research project can be found here.
