Welcome to the new Brussels Centre for Urban Studies website. This website is part of a new visual identity for the Centre, created by Brussels-based graphic designer Nuno Pinto da Cruz, in dialogue with the Centre's director Bas van Heur. Betawerk (NL) was responsible for the website’s development.
The new logo was already introduced to our social media channels a while ago. Somewhere between an unfolded map and urban building facades, the icon next to the name of the institution signifies endless curiosity for everything related to urban phenomena. It recalls debate, research, and questioning—key features of urban studies.
Besides the logo, the new visual identity includes a colour palette, new fonts, and other visual elements that will be used throughout the website and all communication channels of the Brussels Centre for Urban Studies, including social media. We tried to make it as bold and meaningful as possible — but do not hesitate to share your opinion with us.
Graphik is the main font used in the visual identity of the Centre. Originally released in 2009, Graphik has quickly become a modern classic. Inspiration for Graphik came from designer Christian Schwartz’s enduring interest in the expressive possibilities found in ordinary sans serif typefaces. Gooper is the Centre's secondary font. Within the overall colour palette, electric blue operates as the main colour and consistently returns in the logo, titles and highlighting.
