Following a first edition in Vienna, this second edition is aimed at junior and senior academics interested in the potential of participatory and arts-based methodologies to explore and showcase lived experiences of place, as well as anyone else interested in ageing, housing, and the relationship between people and their surroundings.
16:00 Panel Discussion: Drawings, photographs, and poems – visual and participatory research creations
Studying place and lived experiences through visual, arts-based, and participatory methodologies often generates creative forms of research data and outputs, such as poems, drawings, and photographs. While some of these creations find their way into performances and exhibitions, others remain on hard drives and never reach a wider audience.
This panel brings together different perspectives on research creations: How did they emerge, and why? What role do they play in knowledge production? And what emotions and challenges arise when research centres participation and creativity?
The programme features contributions on photovoice with older adults in the Dominican Republic (Pamela Suero), architectural drawings as a research method (Sander Lambrix), co-created poetry (Aline Verbeke), and critical reflections on participatory methods (An-Sofie Smetcoren). It will also include a contribution from Lisa Achammer, photographer of the HOMeAGE project.
17:30 Exhibition Opening + Reception
The exhibition is an outcome of Luise Stoisser’s PhD, which is part of the larger HOMeAGE Doctoral Network. Luise Stoisser and Lisa Achammer will open the exhibition with a brief introduction to the research project, methodology, and the photographs themselves.
After this opening event, the exhibition can be visited free of charge during the opening hours of USQUARE until November 11th.
