Final Conference
On 16 September (9:00–17:00), we will host the GATHERINGS Final Conference, bringing together practitioners, policymakers, researchers, industry and civil society to share the project’s main results and reflect on the future of surveillance in public gatherings — balancing security needs with privacy, social impact and cost.
The day will feature keynote contributions from leading experts in the field, including Ciara Bracken-Roche, Nick Glynn, Rob Testelmans and Mehdi Ghassemi.
A key milestone of the conference will be the launch of the project’s book: EU Handbook on Surveillance of Public Gatherings.
The final Conference will take place in the Promotion Room, building D.2.01, VUB Main Campus, Pleinlaan 2, 1050 Brussels.
Mobilisation and Mutual Learning Workshop
On 17 September (10:00–12:00), we will run a hands-on Mobilisation and Mutual Learning (MML) Workshop, where participants will be invited to test the project’s Awareness-Raising Campaigns on the use of surveillance in public gatherings. The workshop is designed for practitioners, policymakers and researchers who want to explore practical communication approaches that support security while minimising impacts on privacy, economic cost and social outcomes.
The MML will take place at the LIC Learning Theatre, a new Learning and Innovation Center of the VUB in collaboration with the French university ULB. (VUB Main Campus, Pleinlaan 2, 1050 Brussels)
