Relief Maps: new visual and digital methods for data collection, analysis and visualization of intersecting inequalities.| Maria Rodó-Zárate (Universitat Pompeu Fabra)

Relief Maps are a methodological model for studying social inequalities in relation to three dimensions: the social (gender, social class, ethnicity, age, etc.), the geographic (places in daily life) and the psychologic (emotions). Within the framework of INTERMAPS project, a new digital open-access tool has been developed: www.reliefmaps.upf.edu. It includes a visual way of collecting data on intersectional positions and effects, based on the apple metaphor, and a new interactive model for the Relief Maps. Moreover, it offers a GIS tool designed to combine textual narratives, areas with geographic coordinates and emotions to capture the complex qualities of place and scale in relation to the lived experience of intersectional inequalities.
