global urban studies

Global Urban Studies critically examines the complex processes shaping urban environments across the world. At its core, the course seeks to understand urban transformations occurring worldwide. Through a blend of theoretical frameworks and empirical case studies, this course unit equips students with the analytical tools needed to navigate these urban landscapes.

Organized around a set of key concepts in urban studies, we will rely on a mix of input lectures, excursions and student-led presentations/ discussions to engage with global urban challenges. At the same time, through sustained reflection on the various theories, epistemologies and practices informing ‘the urban’ today, the course sharpens our understanding of the similarities and differences between cities and urban regions across the world.
