An-Sofie Smetcoren is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Educational Science. Her research focuses on how urban environments influence daily life (e.g. access to services and care, housing, etc) of its inhabitants and thus how processes of social inclusion and exclusion take place in communities. Within her research she have developed a specific interest in the Brussels Capital Region. Adjoining this, is her particular interest to engage with the experiences of and to give voice to socially, politically and economically marginalised populations (by using and developing co-creative, participatory action research approaches). Currently she is involved in the CALICO (Care and Living in Community) project (website: https://www.uia-initiative.eu/en/uia-cities/brussels-capital-region), Reno-Lab-C (https://www.livinglabs-brusselsretrofit.be/nl/renolab-c_nl/) and Culturally Sensitive Care Ambassadors (https://www.esf-agentschap.be/nl/projectenkaart/cultuursensitieve-zorgambassadeurs-valoriseren-van-talenten-culturally-sensitive-care). Furthermore, as a researcher she is also member of the Belgian Ageing Research group.
