Maureen Chinyere Duru is preparing a Ph.D. in History at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Her area of study is cultures and mentalities specializing in food history. The main focus of her research is the role of food in identity formation among Africans in Belgium from 1970 up to the present (This research was finished in November of 2013). She graduated with a bachelor's degree in History from the University of Calabar (Nigeria) and with a master's degree in European Integration and Development from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She also has a postgraduate diploma in Journalism and worked extensively in Nigeria as a journalist and TV producer. One of her TV programmes was ‘Cuisine International’ produced for national television in Nigeria 1994-1997.
For six years now, Maureen Duru lives in Brussels with her husband and three daughters.
