Laurence Claeys is professor in the Department of Media and Communication Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Brussels-Belgium) and holds a PhD in Social Sciences (Communication Sciences) and an MA in Sociology and Gender Studies. She is also Senior Researcher at the research center SMIT since 2012 where she is involved in research on privacy, trust, risk and end-user development in the domain of Internet-of-Things communication. Before becoming professor she has been working at the Nederlandstalige Vrouwenraad (http://www.vrouwenraad.be), VOK (http://www.vrouwendag.be/) and has been part of the Ambient Media Applications research team of Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs (http://www.belllabs.be/) in Antwerp where she investigated the role and implementation of end-user development tools for programming contextual aware systems and application-creation platforms. In this context she also developed research methods and tools for the interdisciplinary work of engineers, social scientists and designers in R&I environments.
