Nicola da Schio is researcher and PhD student at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and Brussels focal person for the Smarter Labs Project. Part of his assignment is working on the Brussels case study, focused on participatory approaches for measuring air quality and designing sustainable mobility policy at the neighbourhood and citywide scale. Before joining VUB Nicola worked with the United Nations Environment Programme on issues related to the urban environment and to sustainable development and as a freelance to promote pedestrian and cyclist mobility.  In the past he worked with different international institutions and NGOs in Western Europe, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. His current research is mainly focused on:

  • The governance of the urban and metropolitan commons
  • Urban mobility, accessibility and sustainable development
  • Living Labs approaches in the context of smart transport technology
