Elisa Gonzalez Boix obtained an Engineering in Informatics degree (Enginyeria en Informática) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in 2004. After working as software developer for IBM Toronto Labs in collaboration with UPC, she started a PhD in Sciences at the Programming Technology Lab (now known as the SOFT lab) of the VUB. In 2012, Elisa obtained her PhD in Sciences at the VUB on programming language abstractions and tools for handling partial failures in distributed applications running on mobile ad hoc networks. The PhD heavily relied on reflection and meta-level programming. As a post-doc, Elisa has lead the Cloud & Ambient programming group together with Prof. Dr. Wolfgang De Meuter.

As from October 2014, Elisa Gonzalez Boix is a full-time professor at the Software Languages Lab of the VUB. Her current research focus lies on meta-level engineering mechanisms and middleware that allow to build event-based debugging for JavaScript applications, and secure programming technology. In the recent past, Elisa has co-organized the SCRIPT '13 workshop (Secure Cloud and Reactive Internet Programming Technology) and the 4th and 5th ACM SIGPLAN International Workshop on Programming based on Actors, Agents, and Decentralized Control (AGERE! 2014, 2015) at SPLASH.

Besides research, Elisa Gonzalez Boix is also interested in teaching and educational software. Since September 2015 she is involved in local initiatives for teaching computer science and programming to children. As a former Erasmus and UPC student, Elisa actively contributes to the Erasmus exchange between VUB and UPC.
