Bilal Benyaich studied political science at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He is a research affiliate at the Political Science Department of the VUB and at the Ghent Institute for International Studies where he is doing a PhD on European foreign policy and the Arab world. His special interest in Euro-Mediterranean affairs resulted over the years in several articles and books but also op-eds and interviews for national and international press.

Benyaich also works since 2008 as a full time policy advisor at the Social and Economic Council of Flanders and lectures Economics at the Social Work Department of Odisee, the University College Brussels. He is also a senior fellow at the Belgian policy think tank Itinera Institute where he coordinates research on migration and integration issues.
