Alexander Coppens (1982) obtained a Master in History at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2007. In his Master’s thesis, he investigated socio-economic inequalities in Belgium in the 1970s-80s and the related changes in consumer patterns. He obtained his teacher degree in 2009 and as of November 2011, he works as a doctoral researcher at HOST on a project of the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) on migration policies in Brussels between 1750 and 1914, investigating the role of local governments in the development and implementation of a national migration policy. He undertakes this research in close collaboration with doctoral researcher Ellen Debackere (University of Antwerp), who conducts similar research with a specific focus on the city of Antwerp. Supervisors are Prof. dr. Anne Winter (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and Prof. dr. Hilde Greefs (Universiteit Antwerpen).
